Ok, have you ever had a friend not return a book? How about a power tool? A CD? I know I have! I can't tell you how much it burns my britches to realize that one of my favorite books was left behind. In the past four years I have moved four times. Each time leaving several books lent out to well meaning, albeit forgetful friends. With such busy lives, I am sure they forgot. Probably placing the book in a corner of their home, to later discover it and think, "where on earth did I get this?"And then there is that awkward moment when you ask them, trying to jog their memory as you describe the book the best you can. Yet, they still have no clue what you are talking about? Yeah, its the pits.
I also battle this demon with my children. Over the years, I have collected some really unique books, some being copies of Emerson's "The Infinite Woman", a 1950's version, which I found at a rummage sale in mint condition. Well, suffice to say, that there are some books that if lost, would bring me more than a "qué será" feeling. After finding one of my prized books, "El Cantar Del Mio Cid" left in the yard, I proverbially lost it. A book that I had carried since I was a young girl, left in the swamp lands of VA to rot. This propelled my need to stop the madness! I did what I always do when I have a problem I can't solve, I googled... Come on?! What would you have done? And while trolling through cyberspace in search of an old school library system, like the one with cards...I found a sleeker, very well thought out solution. I found something I call salvation. (No seriously, if you have media... this is the ideal way to protect it.)
Fact: Most insurances require a manifest of your property to pay out for items which have been lost due to theft.

Ok, now how many of you actually sat down wrote down each and every cd/dvd/book/game you own? Really? That many? Well, good for you. I haven't! (well, now I have, somewhat)  I however, dreaded the thought of transcribing all of my media. So when I found, Delicious Library 2  , I was intrigued.

With nothing more than my mac books web cam, I could scan all of my media into a clean and friendly user interface. So it scans, big whoopdeedoo! No, it doesn't just scan, it actively crawls and inputs all of the pertinent information and an image of your item. And you know what's even better, it's not afraid to communicate. It talks to your itunes and logs your itunes purchases such as videos, audio-books, and songs. Now tell me that ain't cool! Well, if you ask me it sure is! Now, to top that... The "MAC" daddy of all features- at least to me- It publishes your library to your mobile me. Yes, so even if your mac is lost, you can still gain access to your inventory via your mobile me account.
Ok, so you ask... what does the whole friend not returning your book story was about? Yeah, I would too. So, back to that... Want to avoid the uncomfy confrontation and the hardship of describing the item to someone who probably doesn't remember even asking to borrow that particular item? From the delicious library 2 interface you can send them a friendly reminder email , complete with image! Now that I have gushed about this cool app, let me just tell you that really, I haven't even covered half of the cool tricks it can do. Honestly, there are so many features, I would be here all day. All I can say that this high-tech diddy is a gem!
